Eating edibles gives you a longer-lasting high. Wait no more, here are some tips for making the best cannabis-infused brownies! Continue reading to learn more!

Ingredients

For the best pot brownies, you’ll need to use the best ingredients. This means sticking to high-quality products. You’ll want to use your favorite brownie mix or a brownie mix that you make yourself.

You’ll also want to use the best cannabis for transforming into cannabutter. Here’s what you’ll need for homemade brownie mix and cannabutter.

Brownies:

    • 3 minced mint leaves (optional)
    • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
    • 4 oz unsweetened chocolate
    • 1 3/4 cup coconut sugar
    • 3 large eggs
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
    • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup of chopped infused-chocolate (we recommend the Incredibles Sin City Chocolate Bar)
    • 3/4 cup butter

You can also try mixing chocolate ganache with cocoa powder for a super fudgy and moist brownie.

Some recipes also recommend using cannabutter. Which you can do by purchasing a jar at our dispensary or make your own at home with strains like Blue Alien by Green & Gold or Cherry Cheesecake from Pistola, but for ease, we recommend using infused chocolate edibles as your chocolate chips. This way you get pre-measured dosages and don’t need to slave over the stovetop to make the perfect cannabutter the first time. We recommend using the Incredibles Sin City Chocolate Bar. You can also find a wide selection of edibles on our menu to find your preferred flavor!

Making the Brownies

When making the actual brownies, a good tip is to use ingredients that you favor. This includes not only your favorite cannabis but your favorite brand of chocolate as well. To begin, preheat your oven to 350°.

You’ll then want to use cooking spray to grease a glass 9×13 inch baking pan. Take a large-sized glass mixing bowl and dump the chocolate inside. Melt the chocolate inside the bowl using the microwave.

Once the chocolate is melted, add the butter and mix well until completely combined. Next, add coconut sugar, vanilla, and salt. Keep mixing.

Add in the eggs one at a time while mixing between each egg. Last, mix in the flour with the mint and walnuts as well. Remember, the mint and walnuts are optional so only add in if desired.

Now that your batter is complete, pour it into the glass baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes. When it’s done, let it cool before cutting pieces. You can store the brownies in the refrigerator for about a week or in the freezer for a couple of months!

4 Things Smoking Weed Does To Your Body

Weed Smoking Paraphernalia

It’s become somewhat common knowledge that cannabis causes munchies, red eyes and cottonmouth. Most people now understand how marijuana helps in coping with pain, inflammation and seizures and research is showing that it’s compounds may promote negative tumor growth in cancer patients and potentially could offer relief to those with MS.

Less commonly known are the benefits of smoking weed for all smokers, both medicinal and recreational. Now that purchasing and consuming pot is legal for some patients in more than half of US states, research on the positive effects of smoking are becoming less rare and many more benefits are coming to light. Here are just 4 things we know smoking marijuana does to the human body.

Marijuana Lowers Blood Pressure

Marijuana is a vasodilator. That’s a fancy word for something that opens up your blood vessels allowing for better circulation and lower blood pressure. This is what gives people those telltale bloodshot eyes when they smoke pot. It’s also the property of cannabis that makes it so effective in treating Glaucoma, according to research, in that it reduces intraocular pressure by up to 25%.

Cannabis Promotes Deep Sleep

Studies have shown that smoking weed can help you fall asleep and increases the time you spend in deep sleep. It’s also been reported by many users and some preliminary studies that smoking cannabis close to bedtime can reduce or eliminate time spent in REM sleep. This is extremely useful in reducing the occurrence of nightmares, especially in those diagnosed with PTSD, allowing for well rested and continuous sleep.

Smoking Pot Makes You Cool

Sorry, it’s not going to make you look any better in a Fedora. Not that kind of cool, cooler in temperature. A study published in the US National Library of Medicine suggests that marijuana (specifically CBD, a cannabinoid found in pot) can affect the transient receptor potential channels in your body, which affect how you feel temperature. As a result, toking on a joint on a hot Vegas day can give you just a bit of relief!

Weed Can Improve Your Sex Life

People have been using cannabis for sexual enhancement for thousands of years. It’s been known anecdotally that smoking marijuana improves libido, lowers inhibitions and boosts creativity in bed. Recently, study is showing that smoking pot triggers dopamine release in the brain. This creates an overall feeling of confidence, happiness and elation that contribute to sexual enjoyment. And THC increases your overall sensory perception, which makes the body more sensitive to the smells, sights, sounds and sensations of physical intimacy. Finally, cannabis’ property as a vasodilator can moderate erectile dysfunction in men and increase sensitivity in women, potentially allowing for more arousal and better orgasms.

There are so many more positive effects of smoking weed, and we haven’t even begun to talk about edibles! Come in to Thrive Cannabis Marketplace in either our downtown or North Las Vegas locations. Our staff is thrilled to talk to you about all the ways cannabis can improve your life.

Strain Spotlight: San Fernando Valley OG aka SFV OG

SFV OG San Fenando Valley OG in Las Vegas

Don’t be fooled by this bud’s unassuming appearance! SFV OG may not look like much, but this sativa-dominant strain offers light effects that are perfect for treating chronic pain, depression, and stress, as well as a little much-needed relaxation at the end of your day. Also known as “San Fernando Valley” OG after its place of origin, this OG Kush variant is popular partly because it’s such a classic and partly because of its California roots, available at most Las Vegas weed shops.

What Does SFV OG Look Like?

SFV OG weed might not look like much, but remember, looks aren’t everything! This strain is sativa-dominant, and it shows it, with small flowers, orange hairs, and overall a much less full and lush appearance than you may be accustomed to. It’s typically covered with a fine coating of trichomes and resin, like fine white sugar on a cookie.

SFV OG has a very earthy aroma, with strong qualities of pine and citrus. Its smoke can be a little harsh on the lungs, so if this bothers you, it might be a good strain to try vaping instead.

Where Did it Come From?

SFV OG started out as a phenotype of OG Kush. Swerve of The Cali Connection noticed this little beauty and cultivated it, creating a new strain that stands on its own as a cannabis classic. The SFV OG strain was eventually bred to an Afghani strain to create SFV OG Kush, an indica-dominant strain that is not to be confused with its sativa-dominant parent.

What to Expect

Unlike its love child SFV OG Kush, the SFV OG strain’s sativa-like effects are lighter and less hard-hitting. You should experience a rapid head-high, joined a little bit later by a light body high that can produce some moderate couch-lock. The advantage to SFV OG weed, however, is that its lighter effects make it an equally great choice for people who can’t afford to lose their whole day. It is ideal for those who want just a little mild relaxation or some help with lifting depression, relieving stress, or managing chronic pain.
