OG Kush Strain Review

OG Kush Strain Thrive Cannabis

Whether you’re looking for an unforgettable high or an elixir for your medical issues, OG Kush is the answer. The basis for many other favorite strains, this western strain can offer THC levels as high as 24 percent. There are good reasons why OG Kush weed is a favorite strain in Colorado and on the West Coast.

What Does OG Kush Look Like?

The OG Kush strain is easy to spot with large-ish, indica-like buds, yellowish-green leaves, orange hairs, and a heavy coating of trichomes that looks like sprinkled sugar. It’s a pungent strain: The bud smells strongly of pine and sour lemon and, when smoked, has a strong woody taste with sour lemon undertones.

Where Did it Come From?

The origins of this OG strain are somewhat of a mystery. We know that the strain emerged in California in the early to mid-1990s, but we’re less sure of the parentage. Most likely the OG Kush strain comes from a cross between the Chemdawg and the Hindu Kush strains. OG may stand for the strain Original Gangster, denoting its fame as a building block for many other strains, or it may mean, “ocean grown”, a reference to the strain’s West Coast origins.

Because OG Kush is rather difficult to grow, less-than-ideal conditions can lead to a low yield. This makes it a risky investment for many growers and can cause this popular strain to be difficult to find.

What to Expect

Whether you are taking OG Kush for medical or recreational purposes, be prepared for a high like none other. This hybrid is known for producing a hard-hitting high that offers the best of both indica and sativa. The mental euphoria and relaxation make it ideal for treating stress, depression, and even anxiety since it lacks the “mind-race” of many other sativas. At the same time, the intense physical relaxation and “couch lock” are excellent for treating chronic pain, insomnia, and nausea.
